Jammu, jan. 09: Agitated over the non initiation of action against DC Udhampur, Ravinder Kumar for openly promoting BJP in the District besides undue harassment and persecution of opposition leaders especially those of Panthers Party, the activists of JKNPP led by Harsh Dev Singh JKNPP Chairman and Former Minister held a massive demonstration and a dharna outside the office of J&K Chief Electoral Officer at Jammu today. The angry protestors torched the effigy of DC Udhampur amidst slogans and sought appropriate action against him for open politicking and for bringing disgrace to the noble profession of civil services by acting at the behest of corrupt politicians.
Speaking on the occasion, Harsh Dev Singh stated that the said officer was being shielded by corrupt politicians despite numerous complaints pending against him. He disclosed that the said DC had made a statement which prominently appeared in local newspaper also that he had banned the entry of Panthers Party workers in his office. And in his over zealousness to please his political masters, the said DC had further made a statement that he had written to higher authorities to withdraw the security cover of NPP Chairman. The DC had further directed the officers of the District not to entertain the representations of NPP leaders. And as if that was not enough, he had been personally issuing orders and registering FIRs against Panthers Party leaders, anguished Harsh said. Having abandoned even the pretence of impartiality the said DC was openly working under the dictations of his political bosses who had facilitated a significant posting for him as DC Udhampur", rued Harsh.
Singh claimed that sufficient evidence of the political involvement of the said officer had been provided to Election Commission of India (ECI) through a memorandum submitted by the Party in New Delhi. He regretted that despite the cognizance having been taken by ECI, the state govt was delaying the report sought by the Election Commission under political pressures. He said that NPP activists held a protest dharna earlier also outside the office of CEO J&K last month to lodge their protest against the highly biased and prejudicial conduct of the DC but no action had been initiated with regard to complaints against him despite assurances.
Appalled by the latest move of the said DC in releasing around Rs. 6 crores of CDF of BJP MLAs of the District during the last 2-3 days through back dated requisitions, Singh said that this not only amounted to an irregularity of grave nature but a repulsively bizarre act of felony and political corruption committed with a view to confer illegitimate benefits upon certain political leaders. He said that non initiation of any action against the said officer has emboldened him to the extent that he has started open campaign against NPP and in favour of certain corrupt political leaders of the District.
Can free and fair elections be possible under his supervision?, questioned Harsh seeking the direct intervention of President of India and ECI. Prominent among those who spoke on the occasion included Rajesh Padgotra, Parshotam Parihar, Rajiv Mahajan, Surinder Chouhan, Khajoor Singh, K.K Sharma, Karnail Singh, Bhavishan Singh, Shankaar Singh Sanju, Rampaul Sharma, Rashpaul Singh, Udhayveer Sambyal, Joginder Singh, Naresh Kumar, Rakesh Kumar, Gurjeet Singh, Sunil Sharma besides others.
