WD likely to affect J&K on April 4 to 6, landslides rain predicted

Srinagar, Apr 3 (UNI) An active Western Disturbance (WD) is likely to affect Jammu and Kashmir from April 4 to 6 which could result in widespread rain or snow on higher reaches.

A Met department spokesman said here this afternoon that a WD, originating from Arabian sea and entering the region through Afghanistan and Pakistan, will hit the region on April 4. He said light rain at scattered to fairly widespread places with snowfall on higher reaches is likely to commence from April 4th. The intensity and spatial distribution of precipitation will increase from April 4 evening with widespread rainfall or snowfall (on higher reaches) on April 5 and 6l across the state. 


He said there is possibility of landslides, snow avalanche in vulnerable areas like Srinagar-Jammu and Srinagar-Leh, particularly Zojila pass on the highway on April 5 and 6. He said passengers are advised to contact respective Traffic Control Rooms (TCRs) before starting their journey on Srinagar-Jammu highway.

Spokesman said farmers are advised to postone their farm management practices like spray of orchards and application of fertilizers.
