The remaining work of the tunnel is expected to be completed in next year. After completion of this tunnel the traffic on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway will ply without any disturbances. Moreover, the distance on this road will be reduced by 16 Km.'s. The remaining work on the Four Lanning of the Jammu-Srinagar National highway is going on snail's pace, as a result it has missed the deadline many times. Now the govt. has fixed 2019 as the new deadline for its completion but keeping in mind the slow pace of work, it seems that this deadline will also meet the fate of the already fixed deadlines. So far as the work of four Lanning between Banihal and Qazigund is concerned, the work on four lane tunnel has recently been completed and it is expected that in the next year it will be thrown open for public. It is pertinent to mention that work on 8Km. four lane tunnel between Banihal and Qazigund was started in 2011and its dead line was fixed 2016 but due to slow pace of work this deadline was changed many times.
So far as the four Lanning of the National highway is concerned, it has got great significance due to the only link of the valley with other parts of the country, particularly in the winter season. The national highway is the lifeline of the valley, so it needs special attention. But the present situation of the highway is so deplorable that the commuters on this highway have to face a lot of problems. Due to the widening, the traffic jam on the road has become a normal feature, which needs to be addressed. The traffic department should be made answerable on the highway, so that the passengers travelling on the highway does not face any problem during the travel, particularly in the winter season. Moreover, the work on this project should be accelerated, so that it may be thrown open to public soon.
